At Farsley Westroyd, we ignite a passion for language learning and cultivate a deep appreciation for diverse cultures. Our mission is to empower pupils with the confidence to communicate effectively in Spanish for practical purposes, harnessing both their written and spoken skills. We believe in providing a solid foundation for language learning that not only enhances their abilities in Spanish but also inspires them to apply these skills to other languages. This approach opens up a world of future opportunities, enabling pupils to study and work abroad with ease. To support this dynamic learning journey, we proudly utilise the Kapow Scheme, which enriches our curriculum with engaging resources and activities.

Our Spanish curriculum at Farsley Westroyd is thoughtfully designed to ensure that pupils build a robust foundation in language learning. Aligned with the National Curriculum end-of-Key Stage 2 attainment targets, our program equips students with essential skills in language comprehension and production. Though there are no Key Stage 1 attainment targets for languages, we lay the groundwork for future success through a structured approach.

Subject Strands

We break our curriculum down into three vital knowledge strands: phonics, vocabulary, and grammar, alongside two essential skills strands: language comprehension (listening and reading) and language production (speaking and writing). These strands, known as our "pillars," are instrumental in helping children understand and communicate in Spanish. Moreover, we foster a sense of cultural awareness, immersing pupils in the rich traditions of Spain and the wider Spanish-speaking world. Together, we create an inspiring and inclusive environment where language learning becomes an exciting adventure!
