    English Curriculum Statement

    English Intent

At Farsley Westroyd Primary School and Nursery, our English curriculum has been developed to ensure a love of reading, writing and oracy. Our aim is to ensure all children develop a high standard of written and spoken language which they can apply to all aspects of life and different areas of the curriculum.  Our rich curriculum provides opportunities to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills to help all pupils know more, remember more and understand more.

We aim to inspire interests through engaging reading materials and clear purposes for writing. We believe that a secure basis in literacy skills is crucial to a high quality education and will give our children the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society.

What do we want to achieve?

ENJOY-  At Westroyd we want children to have a strong love of reading and enjoy a wide breadth of literature.

ACHIEVE- At Westroyd we want children to meet their own personal goals and develop a high standard of written and spoken language. We believe reading is the key to success at Westroyd we aim that every child will learn to read.

BELIEVE – At Westroyd children see themselves as authors and get lost in a range of texts.

TOGETHER- At Westroyd we have carefully planned out books to ensure children see themselves and others to reflect the world we live in. We use approaches that enable pupils to develop ideas for reading and writing together.
