Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

School Council 2024- 2025

Welcome to our School Council

The School Council is made up of children in all year groups from Yr 1 to Yr 6.  They meet with Miss Pashley and other staff members to talk about what is good in school and how we can make it better.  They play a pinnacle role in the development of the school and frequently give up their time for the school.

A school councillor must have the following attributes:

  • Motivated
  • Happy to share and consider other opinions and points of view
  • A SMART and PROUD member of the school community
  • A role model in terms of behaviour and learning attitude.
  • Listens carefully
  • A commitment to making the school a better place.

In our meetings we have the following agreement:

  • Listen when someone is speaking.
  • One person speaks at a time
  • Allow the opportunity for everyone to have a say.
  • Positive feedback at all times.
  • Put your hand up if you want to comment or question.

Our School Council have made a few changes over the past few years, many of which are about making playtimes better. Our KS2 keep-fit equipment was chosen by the School Council and toys and resources are chosen and purchased by them. They have also raised money for new reading texts.  They also set up the Christmas Enterprise Fair, and made the decision that all classes would raise funds for themselves and make their own decisions around how the money is spent. This year the council shared their thoughts on our new approach to teaching SPAG and whether they felt it had an impact. As a School Council, we met with our local councillor Craig Timms. He came and shared how his role compared with theirs. We pushed him with lots of challenging questions. Miss Pashley was pleased, as by the end of it he had agreed to change the flow of traffic in the roadworks on the ring-road! The council also encourage families to contribute food to the Pudsey Food Bank. They even delivered it and had a look around the centre.

This year's councillors are Cameron, Amelia, Ayaan, Audrey, Mischa, Charlie, Frankie, Daniel, Darcey, Freya, Carter and Harriet.
