What a way to share our love of reading!
We have had a fabulous week in school this week, sharing our love of reading! It was the absolute ultimate to have George Webster with us in school, sharing his new book, George and the Mini Dragon! Every time I turn, I see a child with their head buried in this book!
Rosie, our reading dog, joined us on World Book Day. She visited classes and shared her favourite storybook with children in KS1 and Early Years. All the teachers brought their favourite stories in to share, and whilst wearing our jimjams we all snuggled down to read frequently throughout the day! In the usual Westroyd competitive way, upper KS2 did a reading quiz which they took very seriously!
All in, we feel we promoted and demonstrated our love for reading! In the background, we are currently working on plans to move our school library to a central point of the school in the hall. So that pupils can drop by and read at any point in the day and can be tempted by books they spot as they walk past!
In our celebration assembly on Friday, we had a unique situation, whereby three sets of siblings all received certificates for their attitude to learning! What was even more unique was that every single child that received a certificate on Friday got one for their determination to improve in writing! Writing is the area of learning that we are focusing upon improving across the whole school currently, so it was pleasing to see that our teaching approaches are having an impact!
I feel very excited as I write this as next week I will be off to Herd Farm for three days, with the very jolly Year Four children! Counting down the sleeps!
