Snow stopping Westroyd!

Nothing gets in the way of learning at Farsley Westroyd!

Well, it certainly has been a tricky week for everyone, with the extreme weather across Yorkshire and particularly in Farsley! As many of you know, I travel from Otley everyday, meaning, I have the Chevin to get over or traverse in my little red wheels of steel!  But, I have to say it was far worse in Farsley/Pudsey this week!  Hats off to you all for getting the children into school and to the staff who did whatever they could to safely get to school. Miss Agate had the staff wearing socks over their boots to stop them slipping if walking to school, and staff took to parking their cars a distance from their houses in, the starting blocks to be able to get out! I think I won the competition with the lowest temperature recorded, at -7.5 one morning before I set off! There were some comical moments too. We are never shy about having some fun. Miss Moore got locked in her house as the front door handle snapped off in her hand, frozen. I had a dramatic and loud fall over on KS2 yard, whilst carrying out the early morning risk assessment on Tuesday. Legs akimbo! After Mr Popple fell over twice en route to work, one day I took him home that night.  We thought my exhaust was hanging off due to the loud noise under the car. We just turned the music up and pretended we could not hear it! Luckily, it was just a huge piece of ice under my car that flew off on the by-pass! Poor Mr Popple also got stuck in a supermarket car park one day, and had to call Mr Clough to push him out! I managed to shock Basil and Sophie when Basil dared me to do a snow angel in the EY car park, and I did it! Both Mrs Hollingshead and Miss Connell both broke down on the way to work this week, so we have kept the breakdown services busy too!

Mr Bussey, our superintendent, has worked his socks off to keep access open on both sites. Especially as we did not have a snow shovel at first, and we had to be creative! We are very lucky to have him on our team.

So let's now hope that the silly winter weather is over for this year, and now we can get back to some normality! A big thank you to everyone for your co-operation and patience and for getting the children all into school safely!
