Farsley Westroyd Primary School & Nursery

Transition

For the parents and carers of children who will be joining us in the September in either our Nursery or Reception classes, we hold  New Parents Evenings in June.  At this meeting, parents meet the Nursery and Reception staff and the Leadership team.  We share information about our school and parents can ask any questions.  This is also an opportunity to have a look round the school, in particular the Early Years Unit.  At the end of the evening, parents are able to come and discuss any individual concerns/worries they may have with staff.

Nursery

During the first week of the Autumn term members from the Nursery team will meet the new children in their own familiar setting, whether this be at home with their parent/s or in a Private Day Care Nursery. Starting dates and times will have been given to all parents at the parent meeting in June. These will be staggered throughout the month of September enabling your child to have a relaxed and enjoyable start to Westroyd.

Reception

Reception children will be invited to attend a stay and play session in school during the Summer 2 term, prior to starting in Reception class in September.

In September children will start week one by attending half days only. Either morning or afternoon and will also have the chance to stay for lunch on one of the days. Week two all children will be in their reception class full time. Again this will enable a relaxed and happy start to Westroyd for your child.

Year 6 Parents/Carers

Leeds City council will contact all parents direct with an application form in the Autumn term of Year 6. All new parents will receive support and guidance to ensure that your child can be prepared for the exciting step of Secondary School.

Places are allocated by the central admissions team at Leeds City Council Children's Services. During the Summer term a member of the Transition Team from your child's chosen school will visit your child at Westroyd. Parents and children are then invited by letter to attend a New Parents Evening at their new school. During the Summer 2 term there is also a 'Moving up Day' all year 6 children will have a day at their new secondary school. This will enable children to meet with others in their class and familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.

When we receive transition information from our local secondary schools, we will publish details on this page.
