At Westroyd we are proud of our place in the history of the local community, which is represented by our unique school emblem. The SHEEP!  We think we are the only school in the UK that has a school sheep, which makes us pretty unique.  On Friday we had a day all about our special sheep, learning about why it is so significant to our school and our community.

Of course, we visited the local mill and learnt about the history of the production of cloth in Farsley. We walked down to see the monument of Samuel Marsden on Town Street, designed royal robes, like they did in the past, played mill games with bags of wool, and found out about the journey of the wool from New Zealand to the mill here in Farsley! Some children had fun finding out about all the different sheep in the UK and why it was the Merino sheep that produced the highest quality cloth. A highlight for the children was a visit from local artist Mr Aidy Jones, who did masterclasses in drawing sheep! I don't think anyone needed to count sheep to go to sleep on Friday night!
